Vernon Wexler Obituary (2008) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota

Wexler, Vernon R. 86 years old , Vernon passed peacefully on September 6, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Husband of 63 years to Lois (Yager) Wexler, preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lena Wexler, and sister Bernice, survived by his loving family, son Robert (Karen), daughter Carol (Ron) Panter, daughter Connie (Michael) Cohen, grand children, Lance (Abby) Wexler, Scott Wexler, Ronnie Eckenrode, Drew (Anna) Kalnow, Cara Kalnow, Alexander and Nicholas Cohen, great grandchildren, Hannah and Jordan Eckenrode and Maya Wexler, and brothers Donald, Arthur and Jerome Wexler. Vernon, a native of Minneapolis, had a love of life and nature. When asked what his greatest achievements were, he readily stated, “The one thing that fills me with the most pride, is to witness the accomplishments of my children.” Vernon served 4 years active duty in the US Army, part of the time General McArthur as a staff officer; Army Reserve Officer for 16 years and retired as Major; served in the Selective Service under General Hershey; owner of Derickson Company; co-founder of the Reggie Award, which recognizes excellence in housing construction; Minnesota Business Hall of Fame; Minnesota Trade Commission to the Common Market Countries and Great Britain; served as a member of the regional export Expansion Council under President Johnson; Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Minneapolis; commissioner of Minnesota Commission on Small Business; served as state representative on Securities and Exchange Commission’s Government-Business Forum on Small Business Capital Formation; advisor to the Architectural Board at the U of M where he taught at the graduate school of business; past director of the Minneapolis YMCA; past chairman of the Distribution Committee of the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce.
