Steven C. Miller
Age 62. Died January 21, 2013, two weeks after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Steven lived almost his whole life in Powderhorn Park neighborhood, Minneapolis. He attended Bancroft, Folwell, and Central High schools. While a sophomore at the U of M, he drew #9 in the military draft lottery, and enlisted in the Marine Corps. Steven missed going to Vietnam “by a hair,” and finished his BS degree at U of W, River Falls. Upon returning to Mpls, he became “short term” Scout Master for Boy Scout Troup 82—that gig lasted over 35 years. Steven was a science teacher in Minneapolis Schools for 30 years, mostly at Sanford Middle School, with short stints at Roosevelt Sr. High and Field Middle School. He loved the natural world. His classroom was full of wild life, plants, and pollution experiments. Steven married Sharon (Shari) Albers in 1985. They fulfilled Steven’s life-long dream of sailing to almost every Galapagos island to see biologist Darwin’s vision that helped form his theory of evolution. Preceded in death by father Donald. Survived by wife Sharon Albers, daughter Tobie, son Jacob, mother Mildred, siblings Robert (Cindy), Barbara (Lew Thornbrough), David, and loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Private interment at Ft. Snelling. Memorial Service Friday, 1/25/13, 2 PM at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, East 29th St. @ 32nd Ave. S., Mpls. Reception follows. In lieu of flowers, memorials to: Boy Scout Troop 82, CaringBridge, or Friends of the Mpls Pioneers & Soldiers Cemetery.
