Born in St. Paul, Stan grew up with many cousins and friends, with whom he remained in touch throughout his life. He graduated high school from St. Thomas Military Academy. In addition to formal alumni events, through the years he and his classmates would regularly meet for lunch. A graduate of the U of M, Stan was active in a fraternity, Sigma Alpha Mu, where he also made friends for life. He interned at several accounting firms before joining his father’s firm “Wolkoff, Effress & Co.” as a CPA. He continued in the firm as it grew and merged, and retired as a partner at Price Waterhouse Coopers.
Some favorite memories of Stan include: spending time on his houseboat “The Office,” (“I’ll be at “the office” this afternoon.”) cruising on the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers; visits in the winter to San Diego, eating at his favorite restaurants; getting cassette tapes of his favorite local radio shows in the mail; eating a late breakfast at “Manning’s.”
Stan was a warm, welcoming person. He easily made friends throughout his life.
Special thanks to the Sholom East Highland Unit staff for the excellent care they provided Stan in his last weeks. Contributions in Stan’s memory may be made to the Sholom Foundation, Second Harvest Heartland, or the charity of your choice.
