Shirley Fiterman

Shirley Lyons Fiterman passed away peacefully on August 23 at the remarkable age of 104. Hers was a long and full life, and she carried its years with grace.

She was born in Minneapolis, and it was there that she met Miles, the love of her life and her husband of 62 years. Theirs was a rare and enduring partnership, one that grew stronger with each passing decade. Together they built a beautiful life and a devoted family, raising four children — Karen Wasserman, Steven Fiterman, Lynn Guez, and Valerie Herschman — and delighting, in the years that followed, in a loving niece, eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her greater joy than the family that gathered around her, generation upon generation, a living testament to the love she and Miles nurtured.

A dedicated philanthropist, Shirley shared a lifelong commitment to education, medical research, and the arts — causes she embraced out of a deep and genuine belief in lifting others up. Above all, Shirley guided her family with love — and the warmth of her spirit will live on for years to come.

A private graveside service for family will be held at Temple Israel Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to any charity dedicated to medical research, education, or the arts — the causes that were closest to Shirley's heart.
