Cantor Sarah Lipsett-Allison Obituary (1957 - 2017)

Cantor Emerita Sarah Lipsett-Allison, age 60, passed away May 30, 2017. She was a beautiful human being with the voice of an angel, who loved her family, her friends, music, art, and small fluffy animals. Sarah was born in Berkeley, CA, to Belle (Sommer) and Melvin Lipsett. She received her Bachelor’s of Music from the Univ. of Utah, then received her Master of Vocal Performance degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. Before becoming a Cantor, she was a professional singer and voice teacher, performing as a soprano soloist with many Twin Cities organizations, including the Minn. Chorale and the Minn. Opera. She studied to become a Cantor at the School of Sacred Music (Hebrew Union College) and the American Conference of Cantors, and then became Bet Shalom Congregation’s first Cantor. Sarah is survived by her beloved husband of 36 years, Brent Roger Allison; son Ethan John Allison; brother Michael Lipsett (Deena); sister Judith Lipsett (Char); nephew Ben Miller (Caitlin); nieces Ilana and Kara Lipsett, and Rebecca Miller; mother-in-law Helen Allison; sisters-in-law Janet Thomas (Craig) and Linda Kirby (Mike); brother-in-law Scott Allison (Emily); and many other cherished nieces and nephews. Funeral services 11 a.m. THURSDAY, June 1, at BET SHALOM CONGREGATION, 13613 Orchard Rd. Minnetonka.
