Rochelle Sutin

–

St. Louis Park, Minnesota

Age 86 of St. Louis Park. Preceded in death by her parents, Leizer and Cyla Schleif; her sisters Sofka and Miriam; her in-laws, Sonia and Julius Sutin, and many other relatives killed in the Holocaust. She is survived by extraordinarily devoted and loving husband of 68 years, Jack; children, Cecilia (Steven) Dobrin, and Larry (Mab) Sutin; grandchildren, David (Erin) Dobrin, Danny (Andrea) Dobrin and Sarah Sutin; and great grandchildren, Hailey Rochelle Dobrin and Nyla Rose Dobrin. Rochelle was a Holocaust survivor who lived her entire life with great courage, unlimited love and devotion to her family and generosity. She had immense intelligence and common sense, a fantastic sense of humor, and a heroic spirit. Although she was denied a higher education, she had a keen and sophisticated intelligence on every topic. Everyone who came in contact with her instantly fell in love with this great lady. She had a charm and wit about her that drew people of all ages to be her friend. She was endlessly funny and entertaining, a fantastic cook and hostess, and a wonderful Bobie Rochelle to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Jack took their family on many wonderful trips and vacations, cherishing each moment of family time. She loved feeding everyone and everything she made was delicious. She always had a smile and a hug ready, and maybe a funny joke or comment. Rochelle and Jack had a mystical and extraordinary 68 year marriage, as was described in their book, Jack and Rochelle, a Holocaust Story of Love and Resistance, which won the Minnesota Book Award and Midland Authors Award. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her and loved her. But her spirit will live forever in our hearts and minds. She was one of a kind. A genuine role model and hero. We want to thank Ora Masheah for her extraordinary love, devotion and infinite patience. She treated Rochelle like her own mother and Rochelle loved her like her own child. We would also like to thank her other wonderful caregivers, Rebecca Fine, Heidi, Tracy, Polina, Valerie, Elvira, Elena and William.
