Robert Dinerstein Obituary (2008) - Minneapolis, Minnesota

DINERSTEIN—Robert A., born on January 4, 1919 in New York City, distinguished scientist, dedicated public servant, and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died at home, in Minneapolis, on August 30, 2008. Long-time resident of Park Forest, IL—where he served as village president—and Wellfleet, MA. After graduating with honors from City College in New York, he received his graduate degree in organic chemistry from Penn State University. He served his country as a scientist in the US Army during World War II, and then followed a career in industry. Following his conscience, he worked tirelessly towards Park Forest’s desegregation in the early 1960s. He always sought to provide a better life for his family and his community. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary, his children Bob and Annie Dinerstein, of Flemington, NJ; Jim and Anita Dinerstein, of Saint Paul, MN, and Susan and Al Perri of Branchburg, NJ; his grandchildren Ellen and Yoni Werlin, Rachel and Ben Geballe, and Katherine Perri; and his great-grandson Shai Geballe. Funeral service MONDAY (TODAY), 11:00AM, TEMPLE ISRAEL MEMORIAL PARK, 3rd Ave and 42nd Street, Mpls. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Robert and Mary Dinerstein Scholarship in Chemistry at The University of Minnesota or the Mary and Robert Dinerstein Family Program for Families and Children at the United Jewish Fund and Council of Saint Paul or donors’ choice.
