Philip Benjamin MacLaren Law de Lauriston

–

Saint Cloud, Minnesota

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the age of 57, Philip Benjamin MacLaren Law de Lauriston passed away at his home in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. MacLaren was born March 15, 1966, in Alvin, Texas. Known to some as Philip, others as MacLaren, and still yet to others, as any possible combination of his several first names, he was a loving son, brother, uncle, and husband. MacLaren grew up all over the world from a very young age. Early experiences and memories were always, in some way, concerned with the well-being of other lifeforms. He considered himself to be an extremely fortunate person and throughout his varied career paths he always held himself to the highest of standards while still putting the needs of others first. He believed it was the highest honor and most important duty for those who have more to give back more. MacLaren held advanced degrees in multiple fields of study, including architecture and structural engineering, medical biology and biochemistry, archaeology, philosophy and religion, and was an accomplished classical musician. During his time in these different fields, he always found a way to apply what he had learned to helping others. From working in rural South Africa building roads and bringing fresh water supplies to local villages to youth outreach programs in the arts and history, MacLaren led a life of service to others closely aligned with the Jewish moral and ethical obligation known as tzedakah.
MacLaren attended the University of Tulsa from 2010 to 2012 where he met his husband, Timothy Lambert-Law de Laursiton. They were married on October 2, 2011 and upon finishing their degrees they moved to Johannesburg, South Africa to pursue further educational and career opportunities. In 2015, they moved to Columbia, MO and shortly thereafter transitioned away from an academic career path and into the private sector. MacLaren was the consummate home-maker and in the last part of his life began trading government bonds and currencies as an occupation. He is preceded in death by his father, Philip Arthur Law; and his mother, Rosemary Griffith Law (née Griffith). He is survived by his husband of 12 years, Timothy Lambert-Law de Lauriston; his sister, Deanna Cloud; and several loving nieces and nephews. Graveside service 2:00 pm, TUESDAY, May 30th, SONS OF ABRAHAM CEMETERY, 1250 Barclay St., St. Paul.
