Norbert Sobek Obituary (1940 - 2012)

Norbert Sobek, lost his battle with cancer at age 72. He passed away peacefully at his home in Dallas on May 8th surrounded by loving family and friends. He was a beloved husband of 50 years, father, as well as friend to many. He was a kind, gentle man who was loved by all. He was a Holocaust survivor and forty-five year cancer-survivor. Norbert came to Minneapolis from Germany in 1953 where he later met the love of his life. He touched all who knew him with his strength and courage. He left a footprint on the hearts of many and was an inspiration to all. Preceded in death by father Leonard Sobek, mother Johanna Finkelstein, aunt Hilde Markow and in-laws Harry & Beatrice Atkin. Survived by wife, Marlene; daughter, Andrea Sobek; sister-in-law, Barbara (Zola) Friedman; niece, Sheryl Sue Warren (Steve); nephew, Lee Friedman (Amy); and great nieces Elana and Haley; great nephews, Ethan and Adam who he adored. Also survived by his beloved faithful companion, Lili. Funeral service 10:30 am MONDAY, May 14th at BETH EL SYNAGOGUE, 5224 W. 26th St., St. Louis Park.
