Born Oct. 31, 1918 in St. Paul, MN to Bertha and Louis Lerman. Predeceased by parents; son, Edward Ellis; and brother, Calvin Lerman. Survived by daughter, Jacqueline (Cary) Dermer; grandson, Rabbi Mark (Tracy) Blazer; granddaughter, Alyssa (Charles) Peretz; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Dina and Shira Blazer, Abigail, Ethan, and Emma Peretz. Also survived by sister, Millie Mastbaum and numerous loving and beloved nieces and nephews. Miriam was a devoted teacher of 30 years to Chicago schoolchildren and an active member of Chicago’s Hyde Park Jewish and secular community. A 50 year member of Congregation Rodfei Zedek, she enjoyed participating in numerous community and political organizations. After living in Chicago, she relocated to Reseda, CA to be closer to her family. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Grancell Village, Jewish Home for the Aging, and Skirball Hospice for their devoted care these past 7 years.
