Michael "Mickey" Singer Obituary (1941 - 2024)

Michael “Mickey” Singer passed away on April 13th with his family by his side. Preceded in death by parents, Reuben and Ida; and younger brother, David. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan; and children, Reuben (Andrea), Liza (Van) and Dan (Cindy) as well as 7 grandchildren - Maya, Olivia, Ellie, Erin, Adeline, Carrie and Jonah. Mickey was born January 5, 1941, in St. Paul, MN, and grew up there. He graduated from Saint Paul Central High School in 1958 and attended the University of Minnesota twice. In between his college stints, he joined the Navy - spending several years traveling the world and serving his country. Using the GI bill he returned to finish his degree at the U of M, taking school more seriously the second time around. He and Susan started dating during this time and married in 1967. After graduation, he decided he wanted to be a lawyer but his grades limited his law school choices. Fortunately, the University of Arkansas admitted him and Mickey and Susan moved to Fayetteville in 1969. Following graduation, they moved back to Minnesota eventually settling in Minnetonka. Mickey’s law career started at the Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office and after a few years, he went into private practice as a criminal defense attorney. Despite a busy work schedule he always made time for his family including coaching all three kids in whatever sport they were interested in. It wasn’t unusual to see him show up to games still wearing a suit after a day in court. To say Mickey had a big personality would be an understatement. He was known for his sharp sarcasm and while he could be a royal pain, no one ever doubted his love for his family. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 1 p.m. at UNITED HEBREW BROTHERHOOD CEMETERY CHAPEL, 2605 W. 70 1/2 Street, Richfield.
