Merton W. Shapiro Obituary (1928 - 2023)

Merton W. Shapiro, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away on November 23, 2023, at the age of 95. Mert was born in Minneapolis, attended Washburn High School, and earned his B.S. in Business Administration at the University of MN. He was an entrepreneur with an affinity for land and real estate. Mert was an innovator in the downtown parking business, with his methods still in use today. He was a Shriner and a member of the Masons who loved traveling the world with his wife Leslee and good friends. He was known for his intelligence and vast knowledge of many subjects. Mert was the definition of a true gentleman. Preceded in death by his parents, Louis & Idell Shapiro; brother and sisters-in-law, Alan (Marilyn) Shapiro, Renee Krinsky. Mert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Leslee; children, James Oreck, Michael (Susan) Oreck, Gena (Joe) Janetka; grandchildren, Stephanie (Matthew) Weiss, Allison (Phillip) Schatzman; great-grandchildren, Blake, Molly, Natalie; and nephews, Michael, Jeffrey, James Shapiro. The family wants to express their gratitude to Jaime, Susan, Izzy, Linnea, Buster and the staff at English Rose Suites for their wonderful care in supporting Mert during these last few years.
