Marjorie "Marj" Shark, 101, of St. Louis Park, MN.
(NOTE ADDITIONAL EVENING OF SHIVA)
Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died on August 9, 2018. She was born in Butte, MT on February 23, 1917. She met her beloved late husband Myer, on the doorstep of her sorority house at the University of Minnesota and moved with him to his home town of Devils Lake, ND when they married Jan 8, 1940. In 1956, they moved the family to Fargo where they lived for 43 years until moving to St. Louis Park in 1999.
Despite starting her married life barely able to boil water, Marj became a consummate cook and hostess and created the loving home in which she and Myer raised their four children. She never wavered as a cheerleader and supporter of her children. She was proud of everything they did but was never terribly surprised, she believed so wholeheartedly in them.
Marj was artistic from early on and always had creative projects underway. She designed and created beautiful needlepoints into her 90s and became a painter in her 80s. Marj had an open-minded quest for knowledge, was an avid reader and a lover of classical music.
Marj was actively engaged as a leader in her community, chairing the Knollwood Place Tenant Council at age 99. Earlier she led organizations including the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Auxiliary, Temple Beth Sisterhood and she spent countless hours as a volunteer, from reading to schoolchildren to delivering Meals on Wheels and serving at the information desks of St. Luke’s Hospital, the Plains Art Museum and the Palm Springs Art Museum.
Marj is survived by her children Jan Frisch, Golden Valley, MN; Bud (Barbara), Lyons, CO; Miriam, Portland, ME; Steve (Kathy), Devils Lake, ND; five grandchildren, Ben (Ione), Matt (Will), Suzy (Steve Swenson) Frisch; Zoë Shark; Addison Shark; and five great-grandchildren, Miles and Bradley Frisch, Maddie, Grace and Evie Swenson and extended family. Funeral service TUESDAY, August 14, 2018, 10:30 AM, ADATH JESHURUN CONGREGATION, 10500 Hillside Lane West, Minnetonka.
