Malcolm "Max" Fallek Obituary (1930 - 2022)

Malcolm E. (Max) Fallek,age 92 of Golden Valley, loving husband, father and friend, passed away on July 2, 2022. Max and his older brother Sam grew up in Albany, New York, the sons of Isadore and Florence. After graduating from SUNY- Albany, Max earned an MBA at the University of Iowa, served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Navy, then moved to Bloomington, where he met Lillian and swept her off her feet. They moved to St. Louis Park, raised a son and daughter and started a business publishing books on small business and entrepreneurship. Max’s passions were his family, friends, civil rights, community service and sports. He was a member of the Minnesota delegation to the March on Washington in 1963 and was honored to speak at the 50-year anniversary of the event in Minneapolis in 2013. He was also active with The Way and Oak Park Home and served on the White House Advisory Council on Small Business and on the boards of Temple Israel, the Minnesota Dance Theatre and the Aliveness Project. He also volunteered for 30 years in the Methodist Hospital Spiritual Care Department, visiting and comforting patients and their families. Max loved playing racquetball (and had the scars to show for it), eating (except beets), exchanging jokes and funny stories, Gopher basketball, music (especially folk and opera), Saturday morning breakfasts with his cronies and crashing Super Bowl parties. He was extremely proud of his family and was a constant source of support to them. Max was very proud of his wife’s accomplishments and volunteer work and appreciated all the care and support she provided to him over their 62-year marriage, especially the fabulous meals she prepared and the beautiful home she kept. Max is survived by Lillian, their son, David, daughter, Susan, a retired Hennepin County Court Referee, and Keith Grady, his son-in-law, who will miss his boundless energy, enthusiasm and optimism. Special thanks go to Max’s extraordinary extended family, who looked after and spent time with him, and his incredibly kind caregivers at Methodist Hospital and Interlude.
