Mae "Mickey" Smith Obituary (1922 - 2010)

Mae “Mickey" Smith, age 88 of St. Paul and Boca Raton, FL., passed away Dec. 27, 2010. A graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Home Economics, she was active throughout her life in a variety of causes and organizations both locally and internationally, including the St. Paul Talmud Torah, Herzl Camp, and Hadassah, as well as the American Sewing Guild, and the American Home Economics Association. She established the Enhancement Center at the Sharett Institute of Oncology at Hadassah Hospital, as well as the Mickey and Harold Smith Judaica Gallery at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Preceded in death by parents Daisy and Alex Mains, and daughter Marjorie Smith Hofman. Survived by her husband of 67 years, Harold; sons, Dr. James (Joanne) Smith, Rabbi Mitchell Smith; grandchildren, David (Michelle Wasserman), Eve Smith; great grandchildren, Yael and Ari Smith; brother Donald (Rhoda) Mains; brother-in-law, Richard (Marilyn) Smith; sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Sidney) Applebaum and Joyce Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service THURSDAY 1 PM, BETH JACOB CONGREGATION, 1179 Victoria Curve, Mendota Heights. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Hadassah for the Mickey Smith Fund for Pancreatic Cancer or to Herzl Camp for the Mickey Smith Scholarship Fund. SHIVA, 7 pm Thursday, 5:30 pm Saturday, and 7 pm Sunday at Beth Jacob Congregation, 7 pm Monday and Tuesday at James & Joanne Smith’s residence.
