Judith DG Strohl

–

St. Louis Park, Minnesota

Judith DG Strohl, age 78 of St. Louis Park. Preceded in death by parents, Erwin and Hortense Gutmann; husband, Richard; and grand-daughter, Amelia.

A Jersey City girl, Judy was a childhood polio survivor, a Brandeis University graduate, a Peace Corps volunteer in Iran, a farmer in southern Minnesota, an ex pat for several years in Iran, and ESL teacher for Minneapolis Public Schools for more than 30 years.

She loved books, foreign films, diddle daddling in her garden, being a literacy volunteer, and pink Trident gum. She was a risk taker and probably a radical. She did not speak loosely nor suffer fools lightly and when she did speak it was worth listening.

Survived by her daughters, Leah Strohl Hernandez and Erica Strohl (Craig Oppegaard); grandchildren, Jordan, Ezekiel, Abigail, and Ethan; brother, Stephen Gutmann (Judy); sister-in-law, Doris Berger; as well as nieces, cousins, and many friends.

Funeral, Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 1:45 pm at Adath Yeshurun Cemetery, 5605 France Ave, Edina, MN 55410.

Memorial donations may be made to the Arava Institute, American Jewish World Service, or PCHP Program at Jewish Family and Children's Service of Minneapolis or donor's favorite nonprofit.
