Judith Gidali Baron

–

St. Louis Park, Minnesota

With great sorrow, we inform our friends that Judith died on February 13, 2024, surrounded by loving family. Preceded in death by loving husband of 65 years, Fred; parents, Geza and Charlotte Gidali; and sisters, Margit and Ibolya. Survived by son, Gary (Sandy) Baron; daughter Susan Miller (Wayne); and grandchildren, Mara and Avi Baron and Jordan, Justin and Joshua Miller. Born in Marosvasarhely, Hungary, she survived the Holocaust after internment in multiple concentration camps in Poland and Germany. She was deported at age 14 to Auschwitz along with the rest of her family, although she was the only one to survive. After liberation, she was transported by the Swedish Red Cross to Sweden where she received the urgent medical attention that she required for survival. It was in the hospital in Sweden that she met her future husband, Fred, also a Holocaust survivor. She eventually followed Fred to the United States, first to New York and then on to Minneapolis, where they married and started their lives together. Having lost their entire families in the Holocaust, they were elated to start a family of their own. Family was always the most important thing to Judy. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother who imparted her many attributes onto others. Her compassion for others was boundless, and she empathized with everyone she encountered. She was passionate about nature and animals, treating both with genuine respect and love. Despite being banned from school as a teenager, she was a curious, life-long learner who sought knowledge and a deeper understanding of the world around her. Her talent as an artist is documented through her many acrylic, oil and water color paintings, as well as in her writing, needlework and sewing. She always acted with integrity and followed an infallible moral compass. She was grateful, gracious, and humble—a soft-spoken woman who people loved and respected. She cherished every day of her life and inspired others to do the same. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those she touched. The family would like to thank Dr. Stuart Bloom, and Teresa, Rita and Rosemary for their wonderful care. Also thanking Rabbi Zimmerman and Stephanie Shapiro of Temple Israel. Funeral service 1:30 PM on FRIDAY, February 16th at TEMPLE ISRAEL, 2323 Fremont Ave S., Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) at minndakjcrc.org or Hadassah Hospital at Hadassah.org. SHIVA 7pm on Saturday at Temple Israel and 7 PM on Sunday in the community room at 6051 Laurel Ave., Golden Valley. Funeral is available on zoom: www.hodroffs.com/JudithBaron
