Irwin “Rusty” Gold
Age 84 of Arkansas passed away October 3, 2026. Irwin was born June 18, 1942 in Mpls, and grew up in St. Louis Park. He was a proud 1960 graduate of St. Louis Park High School. From an early age, Irwin had a love of Radio Broadcasting. His first taste of broadcasting was when he used his smooth voice to give the daily announcements through the school loud speakers.
He had an extensive Rock and Roll record collection which he used to DJ many of his sister Ellen’s friends' Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties. This helped solidify the direction his adult life would take and he graduated from the Brown Institute of Broadcasting after high school.
Irwin started his radio career in Montana as a DJ, changing his name to his on air persona, “Rusty Gold”. Rusty worked for years in radio as a DJ, Ad Sales, and General Management from the West to Texas and other Southern states. Rusty found his way back to Minneapolis and worked in retail sales, always performing as a Top Producer. Eventually he moved to Arkansas to be close to his daughter and her family.
Preceded in death by parents, Rhea and Max Gold; son, Michael; ex-wife and mother of his children, Theresa; many aunts, uncles and several cousins. Survived by son, James; daughter, Andrea Gates (David); grandchildren, Brandon Gates, Chelsea and Connor Green, Ethan Gates, Jackie and Mark Gold and Jennifer Gold; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen (Gold) Nelson and brother-in-law, Dana; niece, Lauren Molitor; Special very old friends, Lorraine and Richard.
Rusty was a good guy who will be missed!
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
