Irving H. Posnick DDS Obituary (1923 - 2010)

Posnick, Irving Dentist, age 87, of Boynton Beach, FL, formerly of St. Louis Park, M, passed away December 24, 2010. Preceded in death by parents, David and Ethel; brother, Harold (June); sister, Barbara (Paul) Goldetsky. Survived by wife of 65 years, Nan; sons, Dr. William (Dr. Pat Lanier) of Galveston, TX, Dr. Steven (Monica) of Chanhassen, MN, Dr. Jeffrey (Pat) of Potomac, MD, Dr. Richard (Peg) of Longmont, CO. ; grandchildren, Abra, Bailey, Josh, David, Rachel, and Sam; sisters-in-law, Lee Fine and Sally Fine; nieces, Carol Posnick and Chelle Goldetsky; nephews, Michael Posnick and Larry Goldetsky. Irv attended Mpls North H.S., The U of MN, graduated from the U of MN School of Dentistry in 1946, and served in the Navy as the sole dentist at the Marine base on Attu Island, Alaska. He started his private dental practice in St. Louis Park, MN in 1949. In 1976 his son Steven joined him in practice. Irv retired from dentistry in 1991 after serving and caring for his patients for 42 yrs. He was a pioneer in hospital dentistry for children and an active member of numerous dental organizations serving on many committees and leadership positions throughout his career. He was past president of the Mpls. District Dental Society, past national president of The American Society of Dentistry for Children, and lifetime member of the U of MN Alumni Assoc. and President’s Club, to name a few. In the 1960’s he founded and ran Aqualand Pool Co. in St. Louis Park, a family business that operated until all his sons moved on to their professional careers 20 yrs later. Upon retiring from dentistry he became a certified golf club maker and founded Custom Clubs by Irv, a home business that combined his hobby of golf with his love of business. Irv was a multi-talented independent, strong- willed, resourceful, truly happy individual and a loyal, sincere, honest, soft –hearted family man and friend to all. He had a wonderful sense of humor and absolutely no tact. Funeral service WEDNESDAY, 12:30pm, BETH EL SYNAGOGUE, 5224 W. 26th, St. Louis Park. Memorials preferred to the donor’s favorite charity.
