Irene R. Sobel (Zeesman) Obituary (1916 - 2013)

Irene Sobel (Zeesman) Born on Nov. 21, 1916, Irene passed away 4 days after her 97th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sara and George Zeesman; brother, Verne; sister, Carla; husband, Leo Sobel; and late-life soul mate, Frank Di Giovanni. Survived by sister, Esther Z. Mann, with whom she shared her last 20 years in Palm Springs; niece, Dianne (John) Adams; nephews, Eric Mann and Michael Mann (Deborah Wexler). Irene graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago with a degree in art & design, and spent her working life at her dream job, designing dresses, turning high fashion into everyday dresses. Eleanor Roosevelt once surprised her with a visit and a compliment for her lovely dress. After retirement, Irene followed her passion for beauty by becoming a portrait artist, drawing family, friends and neighbors. Irene had a sensitive heart and an embrace for one and all. She loved her life. Her family deeply appreciates the exceptional care provided by the staff at Roitenberg Assisted Living and the attentiveness and kindness of her personal caregivers Kathleen Nolan, Katie Struve, Felicia Osbourne, and Harriet Hilecher. Funeral service WEDNESDAY 11 AM, UNITED HEBREW BROTHERHOOD CEMETERY CHAPEL, 70 ½ & Thomas Ave., Richfield. Luncheon to follow at 12:30 at Roitenberg Residence, 3610 Phillips Pkwy, St. Louis Park (main dinning room). Memorials preferred to donor's favorite charity. NO SHIVA.
