Gerald "Jerry" M. Altman Obituary (1927 - 2023)

Gerald “Jerry” M. Altman, Age 95, of Minnetonka passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was born on December 8th, 1927 in Duluth, MN to Maurice and Rae (Zurovsky) Altman. Jerry was a veteran of WWII stationed in San Francisco at the Presidio where he was responsible for driving the General of his station. Upon returning from military service in 1950, he married Leone Stein. Jerry was a true entrepreneur starting with owning and operating Stein Rexall Drugs in Hibbing MN along with his brothers-in-law, Alan Stein and David Oxman. While at the drug store he embarked on a new venture, opening The Koney Express. It proved to be so successful that he had multiple kiosks throughout the Iron Range and culminated in to having a food booth at the MN State Fair. He continued with running the booth at the Fair for 25 years where the Koney Sandwich was voted Best New Food. His passion with food never wavered and there wasn’t an Asian meal that he could say no to. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Leone (Stein); daughter, Nancy (Bruce Macdonald); son, Larry (Patti Tollerud Altman); grandsons, Oliver Macdonald, Zach, Josh and Max Altman; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Rae; brother, Alan Altman; and sister, Betty Eisenberg. Funeral service 11:00 am on FRIDAY, June 2nd at the UNITED HEBREW BROTHERHOOD CEMETERY CHAPEL, 2605 W. 70 ½ St., Richfield.
