Eva W. Wiesenberg Obituary (1920 - 2017) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota

Eva W. Wiesenberg, born May 30, 1920, in Vasarosnameny, Hungary. Predeceased by parents, Adolph and Rosza Klein, both murdered in the Holocaust along with her two brothers; by beloved husband, Rabbi Joseph W. Wiesenberg, and by adored and devoted daughter, Judith Wiesenberg-Neiman. Survived by son, Michael Wiesenberg and his daughters, Emilie Nangle, and her children, Joey and Lili, and Chloe Meade, and her son, Henry, and daughter, Madeleine Eva, and by her son-in-law, William Neiman, and his daughters, Becky Neiman and her daughter Emma, and Maurine and her step-daughter, Frieda Kenyon Brown and her son, Jack Joseph Neiman. Eva was a high-spirited, Jewish teenager visiting relatives in Vienna when Hitler and the Nazis annexed Austria. Eva actually heard Hitler speak and witnessed the outrageous fate of her friends and relatives in the ensuing days. As a result, Eva foresaw the Jewish future in Europe and returned to her family in Hungary, hoping to persuade them to emigrate. Her parents chose to remain but allowed Eva to emigrate shortly before Hitler invaded Poland. In England, Eva met her husband-to-be, married in 1941, and gave birth to her son, Michael, in 1943. Shortly after the war ended, when Eva learned that her family had been slaughtered by the Nazis, she wanted to leave Europe; Rabbi Joe agreed, and she and her family emigrated to America in 1946. Living on Chicago’s North Side for three years, Eva gave birth to her daughter, Judith, in 1948. There were several more moves until the family settled in St. Louis Park in 1961. Between 1961 and until Alzheimer’s overtook her about ten years ago, Eva was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She also was active in Beth El, particularly in relationship to art and music. Her last years were spent in Sholom Home West. Despite being robbed of memories years ago, Eva always retained her strong, positive spirit that was the touchstone of her life. Whenever asked about how she was doing on a given day, even in very recent times, her answer would be: “just fine.
