Edith Davis Obituary (2008) - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Davis, Edith Replansky age 87, Minneapolis, died Monday, May 19th, of cardiac complications. Preceded in death by parents Sol and Fannie (Ginsberg) Replansky and brother Herbert. Survived by sister, Naomi Replansky; husband, Lionel Davis; children, Peggy (Joe Kurland), Barbara, Julian, and Saul; grandchildren, Aaron and Kayla Kurland-Davis; special friends, Virginia Rovainen and Solveig Johnson; and many loving relatives, friends, colleagues, students, and patients. A native of New York City, Edith came to Minnesota for graduate school, where she met her future husband Lionel Davis of Duluth. She went on to work as an editor at Minnemast, the Minnesota Higher Education Coordinating Commission. She was one of the first women to serve on the board of Group Health. She began studying Chinese medicine in the 1970s and became involved locally and nationally in establishing licensure and educational standards for the field. She served on the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and the Acupuncture Oriental Medicine Assn of Minnesota. She had just completed work on a book about her Five Element specialty of practice. In 1983, she established the Healing Point Acupuncture Clinic, and in 1990, the Minnesota Institute of Acupuncture and Herbal Studies. The school, now the Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, named its clinic for her. Edith was involved with the Field School PTA, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and in recent years, Or Emet Humanistic Judaism Congregation. Edith was devoted to her family, and enjoyed reading, the outdoors, and playing recorder with her husband Lionel's music group. Blessed with a sense of curiosity and wonder, a spirit of feistiness and tenacity, an untiring spirit, keen intellect and sense of humor, Edith was an inspiration, mentor, healer, and good friend, loving wife, parent, and grandmother, and will be sorely missed. Funeral Thursday at Mayim Rabim Cong. 4401 York Ave. S., Mpls., 11:30 a.m. Burial Friday at Temple Israel Cemetery, 11 a.m., Duluth, Rabbi Amy Bernstein officiating. Shiva Sat-Wed. at the Davis home.
