Deera B. Tychman Obituary (1923 - 2013) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota

Deera Sanders Tychman, age 89 of St. Louis Park passed away Aug. 26, 2013. Preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Albert Tychman, parents Max & Ida Sanders and brother David Sanders. Survived by children Jonathan (France), David (Seattle), Judy & Jerel Shapiro; grandchildren Dena Shapiro, Max & Sara Shapiro, Rachel and Oren Shapiro; and one great-grandchild “in production”; sisters-in-law Mimi Sanders and Barbara Tychman; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Deera received her BA in Social Work (or was it Bridge?) from the U of M in 1945 and went to work for the American Red Cross in Chicago, where she met Al. They married in 1946 and returned to Minneapolis, where she became active in Hadassah, NCJW and the Women’s Division of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation. She was a life-long member of Beth El Synagogue, a Talmud Torah graduate and loved to speak Hebrew. She was known for her philanthropic involvement and generosity. Deera was a life-long dedicated bridge player until the last year of her life. She was one of the original residents of Enhanced Assisted Living at Roitenberg; many thanks to the dedicated staff there for their wonderful care. Funeral service TUESDAY 11:00 a.m. at BETH EL SYNAGOGUE, 5225 Barry St., St. Louis Park. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to STEP, Congregation Darchei Noam, 2950 Joppa Avenue S., St, Louis Park 55416, or the JCC’s Tychman Shapiro Gallery.
