Minneapolis, Minnesota
David Plaut passed away on January 27, 2021 at his home in Minneapolis after an unbelievably courageous fight against leukemia first, starting in late 2012, and then against GVHD following a complete stem cell transplant a few months later. Those who were close to him know that few others could have been as strong. David is survived by his wife, Christina, who fought the battles with him all those years. He is also survived by his parents, Harvey and Mary Ann Plaut of El Paso; younger brother, Jacob of El Paso; sister, Esther (Doug) Cohen of St.Louis, and her children, Ethan and Noa. Other close family members are Aunt Lenore Kobren and cousins Scott (Lynn) and Barry (Robin) Kobren, their children and grandchildren. In spite of enormous difficulty in traveling because of his disability, David and Christina made it to all important family occasions/ceremonies: Bar Mitzvah, Bat Mitzvah, and many weddings. Neither David nor Christina could have gotten through these years of illness without the help of Christina’s parents Jane and Denis Polley. Friends and neighbors were always ready to help as well. David graduated from El Paso Hebrew Day School, Coronado High School, Trinity University in San Antonio, and the University of Minnesota, with a PhD in Material Science. He worked as an engineer for 3M Company for over 10 years earning ten U.S. patents. His job resulted in David and Christina living in Singapore for two years, during which time they were able to travel to over 20 countries. During his life, David completed over 100 events. including multiple half Ironman triathlons and two full Marathons. Everyone who knew David loved him for his intelligence, wit, compassion, and concern for others. In lieu of flowers, donations to Be The Match (bethematch.org), without which David would not have had his eight additional years of life. May his memory be a blessing to us all.
