Christa Ruth Powell Neff, born on March 3, 1957, in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, passed away October 9, 2026.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, humor, and service to others. As a young woman, Christa excelled academically and was recognized for her achievements with two college scholarships. She attended college in Le Sueur, Wisconsin, where she continued to demonstrate the dedication and intelligence that would characterize her entire life.
Following graduation, Christa pursued a career in nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Through hard work, skill, and devotion to her patients, she advanced to the position of Assistant Head Nurse at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Throughout her nursing career, she earned the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of countless patients and families. Christa was widely known for her warmth, friendliness, and remarkable sense of humor. She often visited children throughout the hospital, brightening their days with jokes, stories, and encouragement. Many returning patients specifically requested her care because of the comfort and confidence she inspired. Her ability to connect with others made a lasting difference in the lives of those she served.
Christa married Fred Neff and they were together for forty-six years. She possessed a deep curiosity about the world and loved experiencing different cultures and traditions. She and Fred traveled throughout Europe and Asia on more than one occasion, enriching their understanding of people, places around the globe, and each other. They shared many experiences together including being commentators on the television program Great Puzzles in History that led to the book by her husband with the same title.
Christa enjoyed many other hobbies and interests some of which were with her husband. She especially liked dancing, taking long walks regardless of the weather, reading, gathering facts to find a solution to a problem, interacting with all manner of animals, traveling abroad, antiquing, knitting, sewing, gardening, making dolls, and riding in sports cars. Above all, she found fulfillment in helping others navigate life's challenges. She was a person who genuinely loved people and sought to make the world a little brighter for everyone she encountered.
Christa and Fred welcomed their baby girl, Rosalena into the world in 2001. Christa loved Rosalena deeply and the two created a strong bond. Christa will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Fred Neff; her daughter, Rosalena Neff; her extended family in Wisconsin and elsewhere; and the many friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, generosity, and friendship.
Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched through her nursing, her compassion, her humor, and her unwavering care for others.
"Those we love never truly leave us. Their kindness, laughter, and love remain forever in the hearts of those they touched."
