Carolyn Kaufmann

–

Plymouth, Minnesota

Carolyn Loeb Kaufmann, age 101 of Plymouth passed away April 1, 2025.

Born Carolyn Mina Loeb on Feb. 15, 1924, in New Jersey, her family moved to Philadelphia and then Chicago, where she grew up, taking the street car to work in a millinery store. She went to secretarial school and learned bookkeeping, which she did for many years. After WWII, she met and married Harold Kaufmann in 1947, moving to Jeffrey Manor (a neighborhood in Chicago). They built their dream house in Homewood then moved to Homewood. After my dad sold his business to a company in Lake City, MN, we moved to Rochester, MN. Dad bribed her with a 28 foot cruiser, which was later upgraded to a 34 foot cruiser. We spent many weekends on the boat, including a trip to St. Louis.

After relocating to the Twin Cities, she became active in the Brandies Auxiliary, as the treasurer, which later became Branching Out in New Directions (BOND). She was also the treasurer at the townhouse association where she lived in, and woe be to those who didn’t pay their dues on time!

Mom loved to grocery shop and would go from store to store for bargains and coupons. As a volunteer for Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis, she went grocery shopping for those who could not. She was a Life Master at bridge and played maj. She loved animals, especially dogs, but had a distinct distaste for alligators!

We celebrated her 100th birthday last year, with a party of about 100 guests. She was so happy and talked about that party for the next year. For her 101st birthday, she wanted her friends Amy and Ron and we had a delightful time.

She was an amazing woman with a fast wit and dry humor. She was gregarious and enjoyed entertaining. She made lifelong friends, wherever she went. In particular, the Bahrs in Rochester and the Risch’s here. She also traveled to visit various friends around the country, including people she met on cruises. She will be greatly missed.

Many years ago, I asked her what her plans were for when she got older. She stopped what she was doing, looked at me and said, “why do you think we bought a two bedroom house.” End of subject.

We were incredibly lucky when Kimia agreed to come when my dad needed full time care, and she brought her family with her. First Henoch and Malica, then Ida joined the family and provided love and care that enabled my mom to have the type of life and death that she wanted. She died peacefully in her sleep on April 1, 2025 in her own home and her own bed.

Preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Edward Loeb; and her husband, Harold. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy and her husband Ira; and two grandsons, Jason and Scott.
