Betty Lou Joseph Greenberg Obituary (2009)

Died on February 22, 2009 in her home in Southwest Minneapolis, where she lived from the time she was 13, and where she was married and raised her 4 children. The youngest of 3 children, Betty was born on January 24, 1923. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in romance languages. An avid political activist and campaigner, Betty regularly went door to door for local candidates and believed passionately in social justice. She was cosponsor with her brother Burton Joseph of the Roger Joseph Prize, an award presented annually by the Hebrew Union College to distinguish achievement in outstanding world citizenship. She was also a tireless gardener, gourmet cook, and voracious reader. Betty owned and wore many designer outfits, several years ago donating much of her substantial clothing collection to the Goldstein Museum of Design at the University of Minnesota. Betty had a zest for life, enjoying television, theater, movies, symphony, and dance. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Albert Joseph Greenberg and four children, Matthew Greenberg of Weston, FL, Connie Greenberg of Plymouth, MN, Sally Greenberg of Washington DC, and Jane Greenberg of Minneapolis, and seven grandchildren.
