Bertram Chez Obituary (1921 - 2010) - Minnetonka, Minnesota

Bertram Lionel Chez of Minneapolis, former resident of Hibbing, MN passed away July 18th, 2010 at age 89. He was born on July 18, 1921 to Meyer (Mel) and Sara Chez in Chicago, IL He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Chicago, IL and Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Bert was a veteran of WWII serving from 1942-1946 as a staff Sergeant in the US Army in England at the General Hospital. In 1943 he married Harriet Sapero and moved to Hibbing, MN where he ran 2 women’s' ready to wear stores on the Iron Range. While in Hibbing, he was President of the Exchange Club, President of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, President of B'nai Brith and President of the Chamber of Commerce. He was on the board of directors of the Hibbing Development Corporation. He opened the Hibbing CPA branch of Glickman, Lurie & Eiger and in 1970 became a partner. In 1982 he moved to Minneapolis working at the firm now known as Lurie, Besikof & Lapidus and retired after 38 years of service. Bert was elected and served as chairman of the MN State Board of Accountancy for 4 years. He was also a member of the National Board of Accountancy on the nominating committee. He was awarded the certificate of appreciation for his leadership as a Regional Director of State Boards of Accountancy. He was a devoted husband of 66 years and a father of 5 children and 10 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Harriet, 3 daughters Michelle Chez Shaw (Peter Shaw), Bonnie Ziskin (Alan Ziskin), Vicki Kahn (Roger), 2 sons: Mel Chez (Jean Anne), Dennis Chez. Grandchildren: Aaron, Marissa, Avi, and Eli Chez Shaw, Amy and Adam Ziskin (Anna), Nolan and Sophie Chez, Alexis and Victoria Sara Kahn. Bert was the “Ultimate” Gopher sports fan, following the basketball and football teams while attending every game he could. He also played the piano was a former member of Beth El Choir. Bert played in the Northwestern University Marching Band and also worked on the "create a memory for children" for many years. Funeral Services WEDNESDAY 3 PM, ADATH JESHURUN CONGREGATION, 10500 W. Hillside Lane, Minnetonka. Memorials preferred Ducks Unlimited. SHIVA at Adath Jeshurun Congregation Wednesday 6:30 pm.
