Bertha F. Aronson. Bertha graduated from the University of Minnesota at the age of 18 and taught high school French, Spanish, and English in Minnesota until her marriage. After her marriage she served as principal of the synagogue Religious School in Minneapolis, conducted youth activities, and served as president of the synagogue Women’s League. Bertha began substitute teaching in the Minneapolis public schools during World War II, obtaining her master’s degree in education after her children finished their college education. She was president of the Minnesota PTA as well as chair of the national organization of State Presidents. She served on the Governor’s Youth Commission of Minnesota and was a delegate to the White House Conference on Youth. She was a vice-president of the National Women’s League for Conservative Judaism and received its award for a Lifetime of Distinguished Service; she also received the Dr. Mordecai M. Kaplan Award from the American Jewish University in Los Angeles. For many years she taught English as a Second Language in Los AngelesPreceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Rabbi David Aronson. She is survived by her sons Raphael (Norma) and Hillel (Susan); brother: Dr. Harry Friedman (Harriett); grandchildren; Naomi Palmor (Zev), Debra Landsberger (John), Lisa Maher (Robert), Esther "Terri" Novak (Larry), Daniel (Heidi), Judith, and Jacqueline Aronson; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral service WEDNESDAY 12 NOON, BETH EL SYNAGOGUE, 5224 W 26th. St., St. Louis Park. Memorials are preferred to Beth El Syn.
