Arnold "Arnie" W. Lapinsky Obituary (1918 - 2017)

Arnold W. Lapinsky “Arnie” age 98, of St. Paul passed away March 12, 2017. Preceded in death by his brothers Louis and Charles, Louis’ wife Florence and Charles’ wife Sue, and brother-in-law Michael Sadoff. Survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Eleanor; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven Lapinsky and Judith Bevis Langevin, St. Paul, Daniel and Corrie Lapinsky, Apple Valley; granddaughters, Anna Lapinsky and Kira Lapinsky; step-grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Langevin (Alisha O’Dell); and sister, Ruth Sadoff. A World War II Purple Heart recipient, Arnie served in the Army’s 6th armored division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was past-President of B'nai B'rith Lodge No. 1804; past-President of Hilltoppers Little League; Chairman of the Postmaster's Equal Opportunity Committee; and a member of the Jewish War Veterans. He was a supervisor at the Downtown St. Paul Post Office. After his retirement in 1980, he served on the Board of the Downtown Community Development Council and as a volunteer arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau. As an amateur baseball player and, later, a dedicated Little League coach for many seasons, Arnie loved playing baseball, then teaching the skills of the game. With his help, these winning young players learned the value of teamwork and sportsmanship, and built a sense of personal pride and humility. Arnie will be remembered most for his devotion to his family, strength of character, kindness, modesty, and wisdom. Graveside service will be held THURSDAY, at 11:00 am at TEMPLE of AARON CEMETERY, Larpenteur Ave. and Dale St., St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
