Alan I. Covin Obituary (1936 - 2021)

Alan I. Covin, age 85 of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease on November 3, 2021. Alan was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 26, 1936. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Annalee. They met when Alan was in dental school at the University of Minnesota, and for the next 60 years, they had a loving and caring relationship based on mutual support and a deep love for each other. Alan was a kind and gentle person who loved nothing more than spending time with his wife, Annalee, his children, his grandchildren, and family and friends. He was a devoted and caring husband, father, and Zadie to his grandchildren. He was loved and adored by all who knew him, and was always there to brighten the lives of those around him with a story and a smile. Alan grew up on the North Side of Minneapolis along with his two brothers, Larry and Neil. His father William and mother Alta provided a loving and caring home for the three boys. He was beloved by his family and his growing circle of friends and relatives. He was a great athlete and played tennis and golf while attending North High. Alan graduated from North in 1952 and later attended the University of Minnesota where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduating from dental school in 1959, the youngest in his class, Alan served proudly as a Captain in the United States Air Force stationed in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. After he and Annalee returned to Minnesota, he opened his dental practice in Crystal, Minnesota where he remained until his retirement. Alan was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013 and lived the last eight years of his life with amazing grace, bravery and strength. He will be remembered for his kind, loving and gentle nature and his compassion and commitment to his wife, children, grandchildren and his family and friends. Alan was preceded in death by his son, Randy, parents William and Alta Covin, special aunt, Ann Phillips, and in-laws Abraham and Sally Kapel. He is survived by his loving wife, Annalee; son, Mark; brothers, Neil (Ann) and Larry (Rita) Covin; grandchildren, Steven, Tony, Rafe and Marisse Covin, brother-in-law, Mike Kapel and sister-in- law, Sandy Covin.
